General Dermatology

Skin complaints represent around 25% of all GP consultations per year and there are around 3,000 distinct dermatological diagnoses that can be made. Most GPs (and also most General Physicians) do not receive a structured training in dermatology, which means making an accurate diagnosis can pose a challenge; without this, management of the complaint will be delayed.

As a Consultant Dermatologist-led clinic, up-to-date, evidence-based diagnosis and management of skin conditions are at the core of our practice. Through training, we can distinguish the different types of rash, and their causes. We also recognise that many skin conditions can be long-term, requiring high demands of self-care that can have a huge impact on quality of life.

Common skin conditions we manage include eczema (dermatitis), psoriasis, seborrhoeic dermatitis (severe dandruff), perioral dermatitis and urticaria, to name but a few. These often require a stepwise, prescription-based ladder of management using combinations of topical and oral treatments.
